Seoul, the capital of Korea, is a historically meaningful
place. Since the Stone Age, Seoul and the Han River have played an important
role. Therefore, Seoul has many historically important and beautiful places.
They are not only meaningful, but also wonderful tourist attractions.
1.
Seodaemun Prison History Hall
Seodaemun Prison History Hall is
near Line 3 Dongnimmun Station. If you get there, you have to go out of
exit 5 of the station and walk for several minutes. You can find it easily because it
is a big place.
This place was founded during
the Japanese occupation and was used as a prison for independence fighters. The Japanese
government at that time tortured them severely in there and many people died in
this prison. Real torturing tools used at that time and reconstructed jails are
exhibited in Seodaemun Prison History Hall. There, I am certain that every
Korean can feel thankful to the resisters in the period of Japanese occupation.
The entrance fee is 3,000 won for an adult, 1,500 won for a teenager and 1,000 won
for a child.
2.
Unhyeongung Palace
If you want to go to Unhyeongung
Palace, It is easy way to take a subway. Take Line 4 and go out of exit 4 of
Anguk Station. You can see the graceful shape of the palace when you get there.
It is different from other palaces
in Korea. Actually, it was not a palace in the Joseon period. It was used as
the house of the regent Heungseon, father of the last king of Joseon, Gojeong.
Even though it was not a palace, this place is so big and beautiful. And this
place is quiet and good to walk around in. I recommend you to visit there with
your boyfriend or girlfriend for a ‘night date’ in July
or August when they stay open late. Most of all, the entrance is free!
3.
Stone Building of Deoksugung Palace
The Stone Building of Deoksugung
Palace is near Line 2 City Hall station. You can get there easily if you go out
of exit 12 of the station. It is not far from this exit.
This was the first stone building
in Korea. It was constructed in the Renaissance style so it looks luxurious and
looks like a European palace. Moreover, a big foundation in front of this
building adds to the building’s luxurious atmosphere. A part of this palace is
used as the National Art Museum now. If you are an adult, you should pay 1,000
won for one person but in the case of children, you don’t need to pay.
Recently the Government of Seoul has
tried to encourage people to visit. As a result, these places are managed
completely and you can experience the histories of Korea without any
inconveniences, including the inconveniences of accessibility. You can gain
both historical knowledge and happy memories with your family or friends by
visiting these three places!
